Welcome to The Industrial Revolution!
What is the Industrial Revolution?
Industrial Revolution:
a rapid major change in an economy (as in England in the late 18th century) marked by the general introduction of power-driven machinery or by an important change in the prevailing types and methods of use of such machines.
The Industrial Revolution. A dramatic change of lifestyle between the 1700s and the 1900s.
Before the great Industrial Revolution, 80% of Englands population lived in the countryside.
Many people were farmers and and farmed wool and cotton to spin into cloth. When the first signs of the Industrial Revolution began to show, many people lost jobs as machines were invented that could do their job in a fraction of the time.
Because of this breakthrough, thousands of people flocked to the cities and towns to find employment in factories created in this new industry.
Steam powered machines were a major factor in the rapid pace of the Industrial Revolution. By 1870, over 100,000 stam engines operated in factories around Britain. The advantage of steam powered engines were that they could run whole factories.
The Industrial Revolution was a breakthrough but at the same time, a devastating developement.
