So, was the Industrial Revolution good or bad?
The evidence provided proves that the Industrial revolution increased the population of England dramatically, but this also meant that people lived in cramped houses and they had low wages. If they were still living on farms making their own produce and only making what they need and selling the rest, they would have had healthier lifestyles and stronger fitter bodies, though meat would be a rarity that was made available during the industrial revolution.
With industrialism, came great pollution, and this would have had a big effect on the environment. Whereas, if the industrial revolution never happened, the air, streets and water would have been a lot cleaner, with clear bacteria free rainwater instead of muddy water filled with bugs and even raw sewage. With cleaner water people would have been able to drink better and if they got injured, the wound could be cleaned with clean water instead of filthy water leading to infection.
As to labour, the agricultural era was definantly better as young children would not have been put to work so hard and they would be in less danger than if they were working in cotton factories collecting scraps of cotton under running machines.
Children were easier to manipulate and could also fit into tighter spaces so they could make some money being chimney sweepers, although the income was not that good and they had to have their elbows and knees scrubbed raw with saltwater to toughen them.
So more jobs were available which meant more income for families which meant they had more children which meant a population increase but the jobs were harsh and dangerous and the employees got no insurance or lay off pay , though some children were given small amounts of money if one of their parents died.
At the time, the industrial revolution was a great ongoing achievement and it kick started the economy and government system.
Nowadays, the industrial revolution was not such a good thing with the continuing development of the world and the downward spiral of the economy.
All in all i think the Industrial Revolution was a neautral thing as the bad things and the good things dont outweigh eachother.
